N-acetylglucosamine (NAG) is an n-acetyl-derivative of glucosamine. The monomer of hyaluronic acidwith glucuronic acid and the polymeric monomer of chitin. NAG is generally regarded as a highly effective moisturizing ingredient, which helps to lighten the skin by promoting hydration. However, NAG itself has been found to inhibit tyrosinase activity and play a similar role to fruit acid in regulating keratinocyte adhesion and promoting the normalization of cuticle stripping.
